J Strauss II Thunder and Lightning Polka
The primal, heart-stopping power of nature and the pulse-quickening vitality of folk music are under the spotlight in this thrilling celebration of orchestral picture-painting.
The forceful Overture to Goethe’s stage play Egmont pulses with an elemental force that is as rousing as it is majestic. Considerably lighter in tone, the Thunder and Lightning Polka sparks with all the electrifying, spine-tingling thrill of nature in her dramatic pomp.
Donizetti is delicately moving in his enchanting Concertino. Something special in this music of wistful beauties is promised by young soloist Christopher Moriarty.
The Romanian Folk Dances and the Hungarian Dance tap into a rich, generations-long tradition from Europe’s eastern boundaries that revel in heady, unabashed, heart-on-sleeve emotion ripe with romance.
Infused with the irresistibly infectious appeal of the waltz, Weber’s Invitation to the Dance is packed with exhilarating, emotive melodies that will set heart, head and feet off on an involving, delirious journey guaranteed to refresh, reinvigorate and reward.
